# Energy Infrastructure: Solar Storage and Distribution

Energy Systems Engineering
Fall 2025 NYAS

As global energy demand increases, driven by electrification and digital systems, reliance on fossil fuels becomes increasingly unsustainable. Solar energy offers a viable alternative, but current systems face structural limitations.

Existing power grids were primarily designed for centralized energy sources and are not optimized for large-scale renewable integration. This creates inefficiencies when attempting to scale solar adoption.

Solar energy output is variable, depending on time, location, and weather. This makes reliable storage essential for maintaining a consistent energy supply.

Current battery technologies face challenges related to cost, scalability, and dependence on rare materials, introducing environmental, economic, and geopolitical constraints.

The project focused on improving storage efficiency and distribution systems, with the aim of making solar energy more reliable, scalable, and practical.
